The Essence of Time

Depending on the perspective we choose, detail may easily become whole. Especially, when we are talking about something as mundane as the tick of a tock. (New Feature from June – September 2026).

Time is an invention of humankind; in nature, there is just life.

We perceive time in the things we love or despise. So, there is always a choice. It’s like a very versatile, modular recipe: We can prepare and season it many different ways.

While we do that, all of it may acquire different notes of flavor — sometimes rather sweet, then spicy. Other times, a little sour, salty, or even bitter.

Much like with cooking, we are the ones who make those decisions: Do we view, create, and style all with lots of love? Or, do we replicate the ordinary, just out of habit, with attention mainly on constraints and numbers?

In fact, we will most likely find that—same as with food—what really matters is making the most of time and resources at our disposal. Because, in the end, the values you create and cherish will reflect your love and respect for yourself and nature.

Side Notes:

  • This is the first in a new series of featured posts. Starting next Friday, you will find posts—both recent and older ones—that match the tempo of summer and season our favorite food for thought.
  • The visionary behind the Slow Food movement, Carlo Petrini, has left us on May 22 this year. After a full life of inspiring millions of people to handle food in a more attentive and respectful way, he has left our table and moved on. Thank you, Carlo. May your ideas persevere and turn many other lives into carefully seasoned, delicious, and healthy time.
