Place with a View I: VUX, Berlin

One of the first cafes I became a regular at when I moved to Berlin. And it is still the best vegan pastry place in town.

In the beginning they just had this little counter with almost no seating. Which was okay for us, because we just wanted some cake to go on our first visit. Only what we got was no ‘piece of cake’, it was a delicious work of art.

From that day on we got VUX cake for lunch, tea and even dinner. We even bought VUX cake in advance to take with us on an early Sunday stroll through the beautiful baroque park around the corner. Because that cake is a really satisfying food and a full meal. And so we followed the VUX to the other side of Richardplatz in Rixdorf to the corner of Wipperstraße.

The composition of the flavors is also very special. You get your extravagant chocolate chili tart, the fancy chocolate raspberry cream (my favorite), the classic berry cheesecake. And many others, as well composed as perfectly made from all plant-based ingredients. This is the idea behind VUX, as a nice person who worked there once told me: No compromises, just delicious cakes. No dairy products, eggs or the like. And the couple who runs the place have put their heart and soul into it, you can tell.

The name ‘VUX’ by the way is a charming and witty combination of both the English and the German word for fox – a beautiful and clever animal that lives in and around Rixdorf – and V for vegan. A fitting and special name for a place that is definitely unique.

Go and have some cake – please do, you will not regret it – but leave some for us. We’re hooked!

I wanted to take a photo of my (second) piece of VUX cake, but my fork was quicker …

Side Notes:
